Ruškiemustu is an all-Karelian anti-colonial and anti-fascist collective.
We come from a multitude of backgrounds – our ancestors originate from different parts of Karelia, we ourselves have lived under different nation states and are 3rd, 2nd and 1st generation refugees, evacuees and immigrants in different cities around Finland.
We’re brought together by shared cultural heritage and the motivation to ensure its survival under the pressure of structural oppression.
Our objective is to make our struggle seen and understood in a broader context. We believe that in order for proper positive change to happen we must first realise that the Karelian struggle doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It is bound by the root to the respective struggles of fellow colonised and otherwise marginalised People.
In order for Karelian liberation to be achieved, we must work toward the common goal of collective liberation – not one of us is free, until all of us are.
We stand against colonialism, fascism, the structures which uphold them and all forms of oppression perpetuated by them, side by side with all who’ve felt their might.
